Recent Developments

Two notable legislative developments have recently taken place in Malaysia. Firstly the enactment of the Personal Data Protection Act 2009. This Act has been gazetted into law on 10th June 2010, but will only come into force when the Minister for Communications prescribes an effective date. Processors of personal data wll have 3 months to comply to the act after that.

Secondly, the much awaited Competition Act 2010 and the Competition Commission Act 2010 were both gazetted into law on 10th June 2010. This act is also awaiting the Minister to bring it into force.
